5. What is modelling when parenting?

Do you want to know the secret of getting your kids to do what you want them to do? ..…. YOU DO IT! At Sharing Parenting we call this ‘modelling’

If want your children to be quiet … lower your voice (or even whisper) and the noise level will go down.

If you want your kids to listen to you ….take time to STOP and listen to them (even if you are in the middle of something – most things can wait a minute).

If you want your children to show you respect … show them respect by saying SORRY, listening to their point of view, talking in a kind way.

If you want your kids to read ….guess what? Let them see you reading ….I think you’re getting the hang of this now.

When I was young my parents always put their litter in a bin and if there wasn’t one nearby they always kept a carrier bag with them so they could keep it with them until they found one.

Most Monday’s whilst walking my dog walk I pick up a carrier bag full of other peoples litter – most of it I guess is thrown from car windows as the occupants drive past.

So far this year I have picked up 5 glass bottles, 16 plastic bottles, 12 cans, 13 cigarette packets, 17 fast food packaging and 18 crisps and sweet wrappers!!

I wonder what the parents of the litter droppers near my house modelled?
